Folded cartridge heaters or PGPs are broadly used in many different industries and fields. In comparison to the classic cartridge heaters, they offer many benefits, including a more homogenous distribution of heat, optimized heat transfer, easier extraction and longer durability. In fact, the whole surface of the folded cartridge heater is evenly heated, including its tip. Therefore, the heat is evenly distributed to the host metal. One of the main characteristics of this type of heaters is that they expand and contract inside the metal they’re in. When energized, their diameter expands and fits perfectly into the drilled hole. For this reason, folded heaters are very useful in applications where there are worn or oversized holes. When cooling down, the diameter of the PGP shrinks, which makes it easy to extract from the drilled hole. Classic cartridge heaters have different heating properties and tend to bend inside the metal, which makes the extraction more difficult.
